Job Description

To undertake long term planning, preparation, verification, and implementation of the Division’s mandates that include: detailed geochemical exploration, trenching and rock chip sampling to define anomalies for target mineral(s); Policy interpretation for Mineral Resource Development; Designing and execution of exploratory drilling to extract subsurface rock cores for sampling, analysis and modelling of 3 – D geometry of the ore body to estimate grade and tonnage; conducting pre-feasibility studies to determine the viability of Mineral Prospects for Profitable Extraction; Ensuring Compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety Standards, including personal Protective Equipment; Development and Growth Strategy planning for Mines; Crafting and implementing Annual Work Plans and Divisional Budgets; Evaluating performance and productivity; Researching and identifying growth opportunities; identifying the appropriate Skill set for Technical Work Execution; providing Technical Advice to the Senior Geologist on development of proven ore reserves; and ensuring continuous capacity building, coaching and mentorship of Division’s Staff.

Job Specification

Key Responsibilities/Duties

1.      Conduct field exploration for rocks and mineral deposits of economic value;

2.      Identify drilling sites

3.      Supervise implementation of plans for drilling operations including Core logging and core sampling.

4.      Conduct geological site investigations;

5.      Generate and interpret prospect level maps including: lithological, structural, mineral resource, and cross-section seismic profiles;

6.      Generate additional geological, geochemical or geophysical data;

7.      Undertake post-drilling analysis and evaluation;

8.      Undertake chemical, mineralogical, or microscopic examinations of exploration samples; and

9.      Compile, interpret, and present exploration data for usage

Working conditions

Primarily operates from the office 30% of the time while engaging in regular local outdoor fieldwork assignments for 70% of the work.

Academic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in the following disciplines: - Geology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Engineering Geology, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Professional Qualification/Membership to professional bodies

Registered by the Geologist Registration Board (GRB) and in good standing

The interns will be paid a stipend at a rate as determined by the Public Service Commission.
